Fairport Fury Softball 12U Tryouts 2026-2027Please register here to attend our softball tryouts! You are required to attend one tryout. PLEASE come 15 minutes early to check in and be ready to play! 12u TRYOUT DATES & TIMES: Primary Tryout Date: Wednesday 7/29 Pitchers & Catchers: Start at 4:30 All Players: 5:00-7:00pm FLL Field: 5 Backup Tryout Date (if you can't make 7/29) Saturday 7/25 *Coach will contact you to set up a time in the later afternoon/early evening. FLL Field: 5 PLEASE: Have your player wear a shirt or jersey with a number and/or name on it. Thank you! COACHES: I'm very excited to share our 12u Fairport Fury team Head Coach will continue to be Sarah Batcheldor, and Assistants Steve Marino and Stacy Orrico. INFORMATION: This is our second year running a 12u team. So we appreciate your patience as we work through some of the details. In the Fall, the teams will meet, have outdoor practices, and may play in scrimmages, games or a tournament. Players are welcome to play in FLL fall ball league also, if they'd like. For the winter, we will be reserving indoor space so each team can practice once a week (usually November through mid April). Additional pitching and catching practices will also be scheduled when space is available. When coaches feel the teams are ready, they could do an indoor scrimmage with another team in the winter. Our goal is to get indoor practice space on Sundays, if it is available. In the spring, we do require our 10u and 12u players to also play FLL ball, just like other neighboring towns. This requirement applies to 6th grade players and younger, as 7th graders may play school ball. They usually do have practices on a day that doesn't conflict with the FLL season for players and pitchers/catchers, and may have tournaments during the FLL season, but they won't conflict with FLL games. In the late spring, early summer (mid June), we plan to have the teams participate in a local summer league again, such as the Victor Vipers league. This is a 5 or 6 week league that plays double headers once a week from mid June through mid/end of July. (Yes, it overlaps with playoff week for FLL, but all the LL towns agree to work out the schedules to avoid conflicts.) The team will also play in 3-4 tournaments, in May, June and/or July. Three tournaments that we played in last year include the local Crimson Pride tournament in May, Rumble in the ROC tournament in June, and the Victor Vipers tournament in July. In 2027, coaches are hoping to add one more, potentially in Buffalo or Syracuse. The 2027 tournament dates should come out in November/December/January, so that is when those decisions will be made. COMMITMENT will be important! If our goal is to have approximately a team of 12, we will need a commitment from the players and families to ensure we have enough players for tournament weekends and summer league nights. In addition, the commitment to practices, especially in the winter, will be important- that is when the teams will focus on skill development! For players that are offered a position and accept a position on the team, their families will be provided a commitment letter for them to sign, showing commitment to their team for the season. Sarah Batcheldor, head coach of the 12U Fairport Fury, grew up playing softball in Syracuse, NY. After playing at the varsity level for three years and graduating from Christian Brothers Academy, she committed to playing softball at SUNY Geneseo. While there, she was the starting pitcher for all four years of college and was named Second Team All American in 2002 as well as SUNYAC Player of the Year. In 2003 she was named SUNYAC Pitcher of the Year. Sarah earned SUNYAC First Team All Conference for all 4 years of college and helped lead Geneseo to their first ever NCAA appearance. After graduating with her degree in elementary and special education, Sarah remained at Geneseo as their pitching coach for the 2004 and 2005 seasons while getting her Masters Degree. After accepting a teaching job at School of the Arts in Rochester, NY Sarah assisted their varsity program from 2006 - 2008. In the fall of 2008, Sarah accepted a teaching job at Fairport High School and became the pitching coach for FHS’s varsity softball team for their 2009 and 2010 seasons. In the summer of 2010, Sarah relocated to Florida with her husband for his work and they remained there until moving back to Fairport in the summer of 2022. Sarah began coaching with Fairport Little League in the fall of 2023 and is excited to share her experiences and knowledge of the game.
